Scarpetta is one of my favorite restaurants in the world. And luckily for me, there are locations of this James Beard-nominated restaurant all over the world.
Founded by well-known chef Scott Conant in 2008, Scarpetta has turned into an Italian powerhouse. The name “scarpetta” comes from an Italian expression meaning “little shoe,” the shape that bread takes when you use it to soak up the sauce in a dish. In other words, to savor a meal to its last bite.
And that’s exactly what you do at Scarpetta – at least in the Las Vegas and Miami locations, the two that I have been to. The other locations are in New York City, the Hamptons, Newport (RI), Philadelphia and London.
Scarpetta’s most famous dish is the simplest – spaghetti. Their Spaghetti Tomato & Basil is second to none. Not to any other Italian restaurant, not to Mom’s cooking, not to Prego sauces. Nothing. You can’t create these flavors, or this amazing al dente, floury texture, at home. I get it every time!
In addition to pasta, Scarpetta also focuses on other traditional Italian dishes, from chicken to buffalo mozzarella to fresh vegetables and seafood.
They also have a great signature cocktail list.
With so many amazing restaurants in Miami and Vegas, I always feel guilty returning to Scarpetta – until my food arrives in front of me. When eating Scarpetta food, one only feels pure, unadulterated joy.
Have you been to any of the Scarpetta locations? Let me know in the comments!
